At Living Scents, we would like to share with you, some important tips so you can enjoy the very best from your Living Scents products

  • Candle Care Tips

    • First Burn - When you first burn your Living Scents candle, burn it until the wax pool reaches the edge of the jar. This will help prevent tunnelling and creates an even burn for the life of the candle.
    • Do Not burn your candle for more than 3 hours at one time.
    • Always trim your wick to 5mm before each burn, to ensure the wick doesn’t become too long and start to smoke. This will promote an even burn, steady flame and will help limit sooting and mushrooming of the wick.
    • Always keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris.
    • Always place your candle on a heat resistant surface.
    • Never leave your candle unattended and keep away from children, curtains and pets.
    • Keep away from draughts, as this decreases the burn time, causes uneven burning, increased smoking and diminish scent throw.
    • Discontinue use, when 10mm of wax remains.
  • Preventing memory rings

As with all candles, the first burn is the most important. To begin, candles should burn one hour, for every 1 inch in diameter of the actual candle size. Therefore, a large Living Scents candle, may take up to 3 hours to liquefy the entire top layer of wax. If the wax is not allowed to liquefy or to melt from edge to edge of the jar, it will create a “memory ring,” especially if this is the first time the candle is lit. Once a candle has this “memory ring,” it will continue to tunnel and to burn that way for the life of the candle.

  • Never burn your candle for more than three hours at a time

If you burn your candle for more than 3 hours at a time, carbon will collect on the wick, and your wick will begin to "mushroom." This can cause the flame to become too big, the wick will smoke and black soot will collect around the inside of the jar. After 3 hours, extinguish the flame and allow to cool for 2 hours, then trim before relighting.

  • Trim your wick

This will prevent the wick from becoming too long and 'mushrooming'. Before you light your candle each time, simply place the base of the wick trimmer on the surface of the wax and snip. This will trim your wick to exactly 5mm and give a clean cut. To clean the wick trimmer, simply wash in warm soapy water and dry well.

  • Removing black soot from jar

A flickering candle can create more soot than a candle burning with a steady flame. Over time you may find that your candle jar starts to blacken around the rim, remember to keep the wick trimmed. Always wait until after the candle is extinguished and cooled before removing the black soot marks with a dry paper towel.

  • Soy wax clean up

Unlike paraffin wax, which can be impossible to remove, soy wax cleans up easily with warm soapy water. Let the wax harden, scrape of excess wax, and wipe the area with hot soapy water. Do Not pour wax down your sink drain.

  • Soy vs Paraffin

Soy burns 30-50% longer and does not contain the toxins of paraffin wax.

Soy wax is a vegetable wax, made from the oil of soybeans. After soybeans are harvested they are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated to convert into the wax to create our Living Scents soy products.

We aim to provide quality products at affordable prices, so everyone can enjoy our Living Scents products as much as we do. But most important we hand pour all our candles, using 100% soy wax. Unlike other vegetable or soy waxes on the market, our wax is 100% vegetable, guaranteed! There are no beeswax or petroleum products hidden in it.

  • Soy Melts

Simply break off one or two squares and place into the top of your burner (never add water) and light an unscented tea light below, or use one of our electric melt warmers. As the wax melts, the fragrance is released. Melts can be used numerous times until the aroma is depleted. When you are ready to discard the wax, allow the melt to set, remove the wax, then wipe out the burner/warmer with a paper towel. You are now ready to add a new melt.

  • Premium Room Diffusers

Our premium room diffusers are a great alternative to burning a candle. They deliver a beautiful fragrance to any room and the reeds are made from rattan, a natural plant material. The only monitoring a reed diffuser needs, is a weekly turning of the reeds, that’s it. Always keep out of the reach of children and never ingest the reed diffuser oil.  Be careful when turning reeds, as fragrance oils may damage furniture, fabrics and painted surfaces.
